Several persons have been arrested and are being questioned in relation to the murder of 28-year-old Seon Burry, an athletics coach and rural constable.
Police commander of Region Four (A), E. Thomas, yesterday told Stabroek News that the suspects were recently arrested and remain in police custody.
He noted that investigators have since gained vital information that is leading them in a direction.
He however, refrained from providing any other information on the probe. Last week Burry’s lifeless body was discovered with multiple stab wounds at D’Urban Park. The deceased was attached to the Police Sports Club and lived at Lot 194 Section ‘A’, Field 7, South Sophia.
Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan had stated that the incident occurred sometime between 3.30am and 5.45am.
He said Burry’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds including to his neck and throat. It remains unclear whether any of Burry’s belongings were stolen or what might have transpired leading up to his demise.
The police said that their investigations revealed that Burry left home around 3.30am to train athletes.
Burry enlisted in the force as a rural constable on July 17, 2015 and was described as an individual who was “very much” committed to his field of work.
The Guyana Police Force in a press statement on the day of his death vowed to bring Burry’s killer/s to justice.
“The Guyana Police Force vows to bring the perpetrator(s) of his brutal slaying to justice,” the statement declared.
