A resident of East Bank Essequibo is now dead after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a lamp post and fence early yesterday morning.
Vijai Sankar, 28, who is a businessman of Lot 24 Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo died yesterday after the car he was driving crashed into a lamppost at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara.
According to the Regional Commander of Region Three, Simon McBean, the accident occurred around 3:15 am yesterday. He said Sankar, who was the driver of the motorcar, was proceeding west on the Uitvlugt Public road at a very fast rate. He then lost control of the vehicle which crashed into a nearby lamppost and fence. He died as a result of the injuries he sustained. McBean noted that the body is at the Ezekiel mortuary currently awaiting a post-mortem examination after which the body will be released to the family.
Sankar was the lone occupant of motorcar PWW 9100. Meanwhile employees of the Guyana Power and Light Company replaced the broken lamp post yesterday.
A press release from the police stated that Sankar was taken out of the mangled vehicle and carried to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
