FIDE Master Anthony Drayton played undefeated yesterday to become the new Guyana Chess Federation’s senior blitz champion while Jayden Taylor won the junior tournament, sponsored by Topco Juices at the National Stadium.
Drayton’s only draw in the eight-minute per round 11-round tournament, came in the ninth round to Chino Chung.
He ended with 10.5 points.
Davion Mars with nine points was second. His two losses came at the hands of Drayton in round five and Adrian Roopnarine in the opening round. Rai Sharma finished third with 7.5 points after drawing with Saeed Ali and losing to Mars, Drayton and Roopnarine.
Robert Neto (6.5 points) and Ali (six points) ended fourth and fifth respectively while Andre Jagnandan, Shiv Nandalall and Roopnarine all closed on five points.
Kareem Hussain and Chung secured four points while Akili Theophil and Carlos Petterson-Griffith rounded out the field ending on two and 1.5 points respectively.
In the junior division Taylor, 16, ended the six-round, double round-robin competition with five points.
He drew twice with National junior champion, Jagnandan.
Jagnandan, 20, was second with 4.5 points after also drawing with Inter-School champion, Keron Saniford.
That was Saniford’s lone points while Aravindra Singh rounded off the group with two points.
The players will return today at the venue for the National Rapid Championship from 09.30 hours.
