Fruta Conquerors and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will battle in the GFF Super 16 championship final after claiming semifinal wins on Sunday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
Fruta Conquerors bested Santos 2-1 in extra time. Delon Lanferman and Ryan Hackett scored in the 11th and 94th minute respectively. For the losers, Orin Yarde found the back of the net in the 58th minute. In the second semifinal, GDF outflanked the Guyana Police Force (GPF) 4-2.
Olvis Mitchell, Travis Henry, Delwin Fraser and Sherwin Caesar scored in the 25th, 82nd, 85th and 90th+1 minute respectively. For the losers, Pernell Schultz bagged a brace in the 45th+2 and 50th minute. The winners will now contest the final tomorrow at a venue yet to be disclosed. Similarly the losers will feature in the third place playoff.
Winner of the event will be rewarded with two million dollars and the championship trophy, with the losing finalist pocketing one million. The third and fourth place finishers will receive $500, 000 and $250,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
