FIDE Master, Anthony Drayton completed a dominant weekend at the National Stadium, Providence by adding the Guyana Chess Federation’s National Rapid Championship to his long list of accolades.
On Sunday, the last tournament of 2019 ended with Drayton completing yet another undefeated run, reinforcing his rating as the best player in the country. He finished with a perfect nine points from as many games in the round-robin format 20-minute tournament.
The top local seed had already secured the title by the seventh round but Justino DaSilva used the final two rounds to solidify himself in second position with 6.5 points. DaSilva lost to Drayton in round four and Rai Sharma in round six while drawing with Davion Mars in round five.
Mars copped third with six points while Sharma, Andre Jagnandan and Chino Chung ended the tournament with five points. Shiv Nandalall and Adrian Roopnarine both finished with three points while Aravinda Singh bowed out with 2.5 points.
Sherlyta Campayne did not score a point.
