A bodyguard of a junior government minister was shot early yesterday morning when resisted two bandits, who attempted to relieve him of his jewellery in East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Injured is Michael Williams, 62, a member of the Rural Constabulary, who was shot twice in the attack. He is currently admitted at a city hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.
Williams is a bodyguard of Junior Minister of Social Protection Keith Scott.
Commander of ‘A’ Division Marlon Chapman confirmed the shooting, which occurred around 6.30 am at Market Street, East Ruimveldt.
The police, in a press statement last evening, said that the two bandits, who were on a motorcycle, pounced on Williams and demanded that he hand over this jewellery.
However, he refused to comply and was shot by the pillion rider.
The police added that the suspect was forced to flee empty-handed after Williams, who was armed with a service firearm, discharged a round in their direction.
No arrest had been made up to press time.
