(Trinidad Express) FORMER Chief of Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard Richard Edwards fatally shot himself on Friday while demonstrating gun safety.
Edwards shot himself in the forehead at his Couva business place and was taken to hospital where he succumbed to the injury.
The 50-year-old was a retired special forces officer, and ran executive security company Multinational Specialist Network.
Police were told that Edwards was tutoring a class of security officers and was demonstrating how to seize a firearm when pointed at them.
Edwards was holding the firearm to his forehead when he pulled the trigger, investigators were told.
The witnesses contacted emergency services, and Edwards was taken by ambulance to the Couva District Health Facility where he was pronounced dead.
