Topp XX wins upper Demerara trophy on penalties

Topp XX secured the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) Year-end Championship, defeating Coomacka on penalty kicks on Wednesday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground.  Following a 1-1 score at the end of regulation and extra time, Topp XX clinched the title 3-1 on penalty kicks, after eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) and best Goalkeeper awardee Gregory Hinds, fashioned three saves.  Prior to the penalty shoot-out, Wheatland Thom handed Coomacka the lead in the 41st minute, only for Shawn Daniels to equalize in the 60th minute.

To a roaring crowd of thousands of supporters, the governing APNU+AFC coalition yesterday launched its bid for a second term in office, with leaders saying that much has been accomplished over the past four years and they have a plan that will ensure that Guyana will never be poor again.

SYLHET, Bangladesh,  CMC – For the second straight day, Sherfane Rutherford found his best not good enough as his maiden Bangladesh Premier League fifty failed to save Sylhet Thunder from their second defeat in as many days here yesterday.   Asked to chase a massive 200 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium after Rangpur Rangers posted 199 for five from their 20 overs, Thunder declined to 161 all out in the final over, with the 21-year-old Rutherford blasting 60 from 37 balls.

Camp St prison break foiled

Officers of the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) yesterday managed to foil a planned escape from the Georgetown Prison, where the bars of cells were discovered to have been cut by inmates, who had access to hacksaw blades.
