Defending champions, Albion Permaul’s Trading and Distribution, Friday defeated Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes by 73 runs to top Zone C of the Berbice Cricket Board Mike’s Pharmacy Under-15 tournament.
In a rematch of last year’s final, this time at the Area H Ground, Albion posted 153 for 9 from their allotted 30 overs before dismissing the hosts for 80 in 25.5 overs.
Albion’s innings got off to a poor start with Christopher Deroop removing Tameshwar Mangal without a run on the board. However, Ariafrizal Kadir (19) and Damion Cecil (18) shared in a 56-run second wicket stand to make up for the early loss.
Tameshwar Mahadeo and Naresh Veerasammy then capitalized on the foundation to add 25 runs each while Shiv Harripersaud’s 21, batting at number eight and an unbeaten 15 from number nine batsman, Anthonic Ramphal, ensured Albion posted a fighting total. Albion also benefited from 20 extras.
Nathan Kristama was the pick of the Rose Hall Town bowlers, taking 3 for 21. He was supported by Matthew Pottaya who took 2 for 26.
In reply, Albion seamers, Mano Inasi (2-6) and Ramphal (2-8) halted Rose Hall Town’s progression and compensated for Albion giving away 24 extras while Mahadeo chipped in with 2 for 12 with his off-spin.
Rayad Rahaman was the only batsman to put up a resistance with 27 which included four boundaries before he was bowled by Afraz Budhoo. Pottaya (11) was the only other batsman to reach double figures.
Port Mourant finished second in Zone C while in Zone A, Blairmont topped the group with Achievers second.
In Zone B, Tucber Park finished on top.
