The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) and the Albion Community Center Cricket Club have expressed disappointment with the non-selection of Gudakesh Motie in the Guyana Jaguars squad for the 2020 Professional Cricket League first round.
President of the BCB, Hilbert Foster, told Stabroek Sport yesterday, “We in Berbice are concerned with the non-selection of Motie, who has been outstanding for Berbice, Guyana and West Indies A.”
Foster added, “As far as I am concerned, Motie has done nothing to deserve being dropped and the least Guyana could do if they are not going to pick him and allow him to further his career is allow him to play in another franchise.”
The BCB President called on the selectors to justify the non-selection of Motie.
Similarly, the left-arm spinner’s local club, Albion, took to its social media account to voice their concerns.
According to the account, the club is “disappointed with the non-inclusion of Gudakesh Motie in the Jaguars’ First Class Team.”
“The GCB/So called Cricket Guyana Inc., continues to pick him knowing fully [well] that he will not play much,” while suggesting “Let the young man play for another team where he will be afforded the opportunity to showcase his talent.”
The account accused the GCB of stifling Motie.
“GCB continues to play cricket politics with the future of our cricketers,” it stated before begging the question, “Is Motie indisciplined, not performing or unfit?”
Motie, 24, has been a mainstay in the Guyana side since making his First-Class debut back in 2015.
In his 28 matches, he has taken 99 wickets at an average of 20.15 and an economy rate of 2.49. He has taken one 10-wicket haul along with four five-wicket hauls.
Last season, Motie picked up 14 wickets from four matches at an average of 15.72, the best in the team and eighth overall.
Motie last year turned out for the Guyana Jaguars in the Regional Super50 where he took two wickets from four matches.
The Jaguars team features Albion’s left-arm spinner, Veerasammy Permaul, leg-spinner, Devendra Bishoo, off-spinner, Kevin Sinclair and seamers, Keon Joseph and Nial Smith. Raymon Reifer and Christopher Barnwell are the fast-bowling all-rounders.
