An East La Penitence butcher was yesterday granted $40,000 bail after being charged with wrongfully restraining a man from conducting his business.
George Smith, 23, of Lot A 95 East La Penitence, was read the charge in the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in Georgetown. His co-accused, Vivian Boutrin, was absent.
It is alleged that on December 22nd, 2019, at Hadfield Street, Georgetown, Smith and Boutrin prevented Andy Gibson from going about his business freely.
Smith pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on $40,000 bail.
The Police Prosecutor told the court that Smith had made an allegation about Gibson taking money from his mother. When Smith and Boutrin confronted Gibson and arrested him to take him to a police station, Gibson resisted. Smith and Boutrin were later arrested for restraining the man from going about his business.
An arrest warrant was issued for Boutrin and the case was adjourned until January 27th.
