Guyana’s badminton queen Priyanna Ramdhani began the year on the right footing after she captured silver in women’s Open singles A-division category of the 2020 Honolulu Tournament held in Hawaii, USA at the weekend.
The 2019 National Sports Commission (NSC) Junior Sportswoman-of-the-Year, was stopped by Eyota Kwan 21-13, 21-10 in the final to secure her silver.
The Guyanese during the earlier rounds disposed of Rachel Cheung 21-11, 21-13 and Samantha Hsu 21-15, 21-17 to set up the final against Kwan.
Ramdhani, who is also coming off a brilliant 2019 where she captured three gold medals at the Caribbean International Under-19 Championships in Barbados, was lauded by the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) for her consistency and commitment.
“This is a great start for her (Priyanna Ramdhani) beginning the year in a positive note and keeping her consistency going as in the past years,” the association articulated via a release.
It added: “Priyanna departed Canada on her birthday January 2, 2020 to attend this tournament and her training during the holidays paid off with her being able to compete in the senior division and medal although still a junior player.”
