A man died on Saturday night after a tractor drove over him on the 72-mile Kaburi main access trail, Region Seven.
The dead man has been identified as Rondell Jacobs, whose age and address are unknown.
Police said on Saturday night, Jacobs along with three others, including the driver were on the tractor returning to their camp.
At the time, the tractor was being driven by a 17-year-old of Greenwich Park, Parika, Essequibo, and two of the men were seated by the fuel tank of the tractor. Jacobs was standing on the left side of the tractor.
Police said the tractor was heading in a northeasterly direction on the 72-mile access road and upon arrival at a junction, the teen turned right and due to the unevenness of the road the tractor tilted left and Jacobs fell off the tractor onto the roadway. The teen, at that point inadvertently drove over the deceased but managed to stop some distance away.
Investigations also disclosed that the teen was not permitted to drive the tractor but decided to do so after the others were drunk. Earlier in the day the teen and another man, who is the original driver of the tractor left from 58 miles Potaro, Region Eight, and went to 72 miles. At the location they met Jacobs and another man and went to a shop where they started to consume beers.
At around 10pm on the day, as the group was about to leave, the teen decided to drive the tractor as the others were drunk.
The two occupants and the 17 year-old are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
