A senior police officer in Region Six has been identified as the person who gave instructions to release the driver who struck a pensioner on the pedestrian crossing along the Nigg Public Road on station bail before the 72 hours within which he could be held without charge had elapsed.
While a source had claimed that the driver, who is a 29-year-old Chinese national of Lot 56 Robb Street, Lacytown, Georgetown, was released on $100,000 station bail after the 72-hour detention period had elapsed, an officer close to the matter has since revealed that the man was released before the expiry of the detention period after instructions came directly from the senior officer. Others supported the source’s account.
