The Berbice Cricket Board has partnered with Lewison General Store to launch an under-15 in preparation for the Guyana Cricket Board inter-county competition.
President of the Berbice Cricket Board, Hilbert Foster expressed gratitude to the sponsors for coming on board and assured them that his Board will work hard to complete the tournament within three months.
He added, “Berbice Cricket is attracting unmatched sponsorship as the business community has full confidence in its leadership. Noting that his administration took over an account with just a meagre $43,000.00 and has since raised over $20M in cash and kind over the last twenty-two month.”
Co- Owner of Lewison General Store, Neal Lewis stated that his company delighted to assist Berbice Cricket and that he had full confidence that the tournament would be well organised.
The tournament is expected to begin on January 18 with atleast 20 teams participating. The teams would be divided into three Zones with the top two from each zone qualifying for the playoffs.
The cut-off date of birth for players shall be the 1st of September 2005. Foster warned clubs to make sure that they have the relevant documents to verify that date of birth of their players as clubs could be banned for playing over aged cricketers.
The tournament is expected to be closely contested with teams like Albion, Port Mourant, Blairmont, Tucber Park, Rose Hall Canje, Edinburgh, No 73, Achievers, Bush Lot United, Mt. Sinai expected to participate.
Some of the players expected to dominate this year’s tournament are Matthew Pottaya, Rampertab Ramnauth, Salim Khan, Damion Cecil, Sanjay Algoo, Avishkar Persaud, Tuvraj Shaundeo and Kumar Deopersaud.
