A Hadfield Street man, who allegedly asked his victims for money before pulling a knife and attacking them, was remanded to prison after appearing in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with two robbery offences yesterday.
Odwin David, 29, of Hadfield Street was charged with armed robbery and attempting to commit a felony. It is alleged that on January 11th, 2020, at Camp Street, Georgetown, while being armed with a knife, he robbed Monesh Ali of a cellphone, valued $30,000 and $1,360 cash, the property of Ali. It is also alleged that on the same day, at Camp Street, Georgetown, while armed with a knife, he attempted to rob Steve Paul.
David pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read to him by Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty.
The police prosecutor objected to the man being released on bail, stating that the offence is a severe one and also citing the penalty it attracts.
The virtual complainants, who were in court, described how the incidents occurred. They said that on the day in question, David approached each of them and asked for $100. When neither of them would give him the money, he pulled out a knife and robbed them.
Ali added that after the knife was brandished, David threatened to kill him. He told the court that the police had been looking for David, so when he made the report at a police station, the police were able to quickly arrest the suspect.
After the virtual complainants positively identified David to the court as the person who robbed and attempted to rob them, he was remanded to prison until February 5th.
