AIBA replaced by IOC Task Force

An International Olympic Committee (IOC) Boxing Task Force, led by Japanese IOC member Morinari Watanabe, who is also the head of the Japanese International Gymnastics Federation, will be in charge of the boxing competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

This is instead of the International Boxing Association (AIBA). The Boxing Task Force will also supervise the five qualifying tournaments that will be held next year for boxers seeking to participate in the Olympics.

This decision has been taken by the IOC, following an impasse with AIBA concerning matters related to finance and governance in that organization that remain unresolved after several months of negotiations.
