Everest Cricket Club (ECC) and the University of Guyana (UG) yesterday registered season-opening wins in the New Building Society (NBS) forty overs second division tournament.
Everest hosted Bel Air Rubis and got around the visitors by 136 runs. Everest batted first and made 300 – 4 from their allotted 40 overs with Richie Looknauth (93) falling seven short of a century.
Former West Indies youth player Amir Khan (72) and Ushardev Balgobin (57) also posted half-centuries in the runs feast.
Bel-Air in response was restricted to 164-7 when their overs expired. Arvinda Gainda (58) notched up a fifty in the unsuccessful run chase. He got support from Krishna Deosarran (34) as Ariel Tilku nabbed 3-24 to complete the win.
Meanwhile, over at the Queen’s College ground, UG defeated Diplomats by six runs. UG batted first and made 134 before being dismissed in the 20th over. Yoginda Singh (54) led the batting effort as seamers Shane Browne (5-22) and Rayson Gill (4-56) shared six wickets between them. Diplomats were then dismissed for 128 in response with skipper Nigel Simpson making 38 as crucial spells from Pravindralall Persaud (4-24) and Yekini Favourite (4-28) sealed the win.
