Former Guyana Cricket Board vice-president, Alvin Johnson, retained the chairmanship of the East Bank Essequibo Cricket Association Friday when the body held its Annual General Meeting and elections at Dwayne Auto sales, Tuschen, East Bank, Essequibo.
Johnson, 63, earlier in the day had taken part in the unveiling of the Alvin Johnson Practice Facility at the Parika Salem Ground which stood in recognition of his contribution to the development of the sport.
He will now serve for two years as the head of the association.
Johnson, who has been on the association since the early 2000s pledged to continue to work hard for the development of the sport and vowed to help bring Essequibo’s cricket to a standard that would be the envy of the other counties.
Johnson will have the services of Terry Newton as his deputy along with his niece, Tamika Johnson as secretary, Alim Khalil is the treasurer and Joseph Rajkumar, the assistant secretary/treasurer.
Tenika Johnson will function as the public relations officer while Dwayne Stephens was elected marketing manager. Vibert Johnson will serve as chairman of the competitions committee while Ian Whyte and Francis Wright are the trustees. Patram Latchman was elected internal auditor. All positions were unopposed.
The body will bowl off its first, the Big Yard Auto sales 40-over competition, on Sunday.
At Zeelugt, the hosts will take on Ruby, Southside will battle Parika Salem at Parika Salem and Vergenoegen will invite Cold Fusion.
