A 58-year-old vendor who bullied a man for two bottles of high wine was remanded to prison yesterday after he was charged with attempting to kill the man.
Donald Modeste called ‘Old Clothes’ appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court Three and was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him.
The charge alleged that on January 9th, 2020 at Arau Mountain Top, Modeste wounded Rayon Barrows with intent to commit murder.
The court prosecutor objected to bail being granted saying that Barrows is still hospitalised due to injuries he sustained during the altercation. She added that they are still awaiting a medical report from the hospital so she would be able to state whether the injuries Barrows sustained were life threatening.
According to police, Modeste bullied Barrows for two bottles of high wine valued $7,000. On the date mentioned, Barrows was consuming alcohol in a shop when Modeste entered the said shop. Modeste subsequently approached Barrows and an argument in relation to the two bottles of high wine ensued which led Modeste to strike Barrows several times about his body.
Modeste was remanded to prison and is to return to court on January 27, 2020.
