An employee of Gafoor’s died after being involved in a vehicular accident on the Craig Public Road on Saturday morning as he was on his way home.
Dead is Dhanraj Budhram, 47, of Belle West Canal Polder Number Two, West Bank Demerara.
A relative, who asked not to be named told Stabroek News that the accident occurred at around 12.20 am. At the time, Budhram was travelling home from his worksite at Gafoor’s Complex at Land of Canaan. He was riding his motorcycle when he was hit by the car.
Stabroek News understands that after the collision, the driver of PVV 8691 drove away from the scene and it was public-spirited citizens who rushed Budhram to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre for medical attention.
He succumbed while being treated.
According to the relative, the driver later showed up at the police station with his lawyers and has since been placed into police custody. He is assisting with investigations.
