Guyanese Denis Dias, Narendra Singh, and Lydia Fraser captured gold at the conclusion of the inaugural BCQS International Masters Squash tournament held at the Georgetown Club squash court Saturday evening.
The trio rode on the buzzing environment at the squash court, all collecting well-deserved wins. Dias earned the true Masters crown in the over 65 category by downing Winston Findlay (TOR) in a three-game match, 11-9, 12-10, 11-4.
Meanwhile, Singh, who clinched the over 55 title, disposed of Sanjay Amin (BAR) in the final 3-1. Singh rebounded from a set down to claim championship honours 8-11, 11-5, 11-2 11-9.
The final for the women’s over 35 division, saw a victorious Lydia Fraser (GUY) dominate Hazel-Anne Sandy (BAR) in acrobatic fashion, winning 11-3, 11-8, 11-5 to hand Guyana its third gold.
In the youngest men’s category, the over 35, the pace really picked up as the fitness levels were evidently higher. An outstanding Shaun Simpson (BAR) defeated Regan Pollard (GUY) in a straight-set win 11-6, 11-3, 11-3.
