A 55-year-old man who was allegedly found with ecstasy pills and cannabis was remanded to prison yesterday after a city court heard that he is already on trial in another court for a similar offence.
Marlon Norton appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Two and was read two narcotic possession charges.
The first charge states that on January 27th, 2020, at Kitty, Georgetown, he had eight ecstasy pills in his possession. On the same date and at the same location, it is also alleged, he had 289 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Norton denied the charges after they were read to him.
Prosecutor Sanj Singh objected to bail being granted, while saying that Norton is on trial for a similar offence before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in Court Five.
When asked, Norton claimed that the police were framing him. He said they falsely accused him as it relates to the other charge and because he was granted bail they were accusing him again.
Norton was remanded to prison until February 3rd, 2020, when he will make his next court appearance for the two charges.
