Badal says would set up inquiry into oil and gas contracts

Following recent revelations in Stabroek News of Global Witness’s estimate that Guyana stands  to lose some US$55B on one contract over the next 40 years, Change Guyana presidential candidate, Robert Badal said if he was elected to office he would set up a Commission of Enquiry into the processes and negotiations surrounding Oil and Gas Contracts.

GRA working for 24/7 presence on oil operations

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) is actively participating in the ongoing audit of the US$460 million in pre-contract costs claimed by ExxonMobil and its co-venturers and is working to have a 24-hour presence on offshore oil operations and closed-circuit television access as it yesterday promised strict tax oversight of the petroleum sector.

Granger announces squatter resettlement initiative

President David Granger last evening announced plans for a squatter resettlement body as he sought to make his case for re-election to residents of Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara), where he also touted conditional cash transfers for families with school-age children from oil revenues and access to farming lands for laid off sugar workers.

Volda Lawrence’s call has nothing to do with obstructing work of GECOM officials at polling stations neither is it about promoting violence

Dear Editor, The PPP/C’s hysterical reaction to comrade Volda Lawrence’s call at the Kitty Rally that was sponsored by the APNU+AFC, for supporters to work the “night shift” outside of the polling stations to protect their votes, is not new since both major parties have made this call at previous elections.
