The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) is set to stage the first of three CARIFTA Games trials at the National Track and Field Centre tomorrow.
Athletes are scheduled to get into the blocks from 10:30hrs.
The trials, will be used to select Guyana’s team to the 49th edition of the annual Games in Bermuda from April 10-13.
Standout local junior athletes will be eager to reach or surpass the qualifying standards set by the AAG in order to compete among the Region’s best at the Bermuda Nationals Sports Centre during the Easter weekend.
The trials should be highly competitive as there are several rivalries among the teen track and field stars in the 592.
According to President of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson, he expects in excess of 150 athletes competing for spots on the team starting tomorrow.
Note: At last year’s Games in the Cayman Islands, the local 21-member contingent climbed the podium steps, a record 10 occasions, earning four gold medals, two silver and four bronze.
The games are considered one of the best development meets in the world.
Below are the standards set by the AAG for the athletes to punch their tickets to Bermuda.
The two other trials will run off on February 22 and March 14-15 at the same venue.
