Investigators are “exploring” several leads as they continue to probe the murder of Kaneville teen Wayne Anthony George, who was discovered dead in a trench at Craig, East Bank Demerara, almost two weeks ago.
This was confirmed by Police Commander of Region 4 (B) Kurleigh Simon, who told Stabroek News on Saturday that while there has not been a breakthrough in the matter as yet, the investigation continues.
“We are still investigating that matter. We are exploring a number of leads but nothing substantial as yet,” Simon said.
The lifeless body of 18-year-old George was discovered around 7:40 am on January 21st, hours after he was reportedly attacked by persons in his community.
At the time, there were injuries to George’s lips and behind his head.
To date, several persons have been questioned but no charges have been laid.
Simon had previously explained to this newspaper that information revealed that George was involved in a confrontation in his community on the night before his death. George was last seen alive by his mother around 22.30hrs on January 20th, when he left home on a bicycle, armed with a cutlass.
The dead teen’s mother, Emmette George, had previously told reporters that shortly after returning from work on the evening of January 20th, she saw George who related to her that he had been attacked by a group of persons who allegedly threw bottles at him.
This newspaper had learnt that the teen reportedly had an old grievance with persons in the community which resulted in him being constantly targeted and attacked in the past.
Emmette explained that she, along with George and his siblings, ventured out onto the road, when he was reportedly attacked. “…They pelt him with a brick, it buss way he face, he nose,” Emmette had said. She related that his attacker/s escaped and she encouraged her son to report the matter to the police.
The following morning, she had said, while her husband was making his way to work he informed her of the discovery and summoned her to the scene. She said upon her arrival at the spot, she saw her son’s lifeless body.
