Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) secured first innings points over Ace Warriors yesterday in the weekend’s lone fixture of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), Noble House Seafoods, second-division, two-day competition at GYO.
GYO, batting first, piled on 272 for seven declared with the elegant left-hander Darshan Persaud stroking an unbeaten 61 to guide his side to a competitive first-innings score. He received support from opener Chris Deonarine (51), Joshua Ramsammy (46), and Yeudistir Persaud (33). The latter and Deonarine shared a 93-run opening stand and were both dismissed by left-arm seamer Mark Cumberbatch (4-44) who missed out on a five-for.
Meanwhile, Ace Warriors in response were skittled out for 81 just before the close to surrender first innings honours. Seamer Demetri Cameron was the chief destroyer, capturing 5-23 while Divesh Ramjattan supported with 2-9. Day two bowls off at 10:30hrs.
