A pugnacious innings from Kevin Sinclair ensured Rose Hall Town Bakewell win the Lower Corentyne Berbice Cricket Board/Lets Bet 100-ball, second-division competition with a 35-run win over Albion Cricket Club yesterday.

At Albion, in the presence of a handful of spectators under heated conditions, RHT was awarded the toss after the umpires deemed Albion absent and elected to bat. RHT posted 145 for six from their quota before restricting Albion to 110 for seven.

RHT’s batting centered around Man-of-the-Final, Sinclair, who made an unbeaten 82 from 47 balls.

The 21-year-old was dropped twice during his innings which included eight fours and two sixes, hit consecutively off of left-arm spinner, Kelvin Umroa into the players’ pavilion over mid-wicket and through long off.

Sinclair added 83 for the first wicket with his cousin, Junior Sinclair, who made a 25-ball 29, laced with three boundaries before he was caught at long on, off the bowling of Sharaz Ramcharran (3-16).

Keith Simpson soon followed after Adrian Sukhwa pulled off a spectacular one handed catch at mid-wicket to reduce RHT to 92 for two.

In their reply, Sukhwa looked to replicate his match-winning performance of  Saturday’s final, with 46 from 32 balls, decorated with two fours and two sixes.

However, when he was dismissed with his side needing  47 runs from 10 balls,  their fate was almost sealed.

After the match, Brand Manager for the sponsors, Ian De Barros, congratulated both teams for an entertaining match and commended them for their friendly rivalry over the years.

Losing captain, Ramcharran said he felt  that Albion allowed RHT to score too heavily in the first six overs which turned out to haunt them. He also rued the two dropped catches from Sinclair.

He also said that the age restriction (only players 18 years and over)  affected them  since six of their players that won the Raffik 100-ball tournament the previous day were barred from playing.

Successful captain, Kevin Sinclair said it was good to get some runs under his belt adding that it was always a good feeling to lead his side to another title.

According to Leslie Solomon, the final will be played within three weeks as RHT join the other three sub-zone winners, D’Edward (West Berbice), Dukestown (Upper Corentyne) and Rose Hall Canje (New Amsterdam/Canje).
