Ramdhani siblings continue glowing start in 2020

Guyana’s badminton stars Narayan and Priyannna Ramdhani continued their stellar start to the new year by capturing additional medals in the third leg of the 2019/2020 ACAC Badminton series on Sunday at the Kings University in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Narayan Ramdhani, playing for the Kings University, won the bronze in the men’s doubles category while Priyannna Ramdhani, playing for Olds College, won two bronze medals in the women’s doubles and singles category, respectively. 

Narayan, who teamed up with Alex Stewart, got a bye in the first round in the doubles and then defeated Rylan Head and Beau Stevenson (Olds) 21-9, 21-15 in the quarter-final.

However, the pair was stopped by John Li and Smit Patel (Nait) 21-14, 21-12 in the semis before rebounding to down Noah Jeffrey and Troy Morgan (Olds) 21-18, 21-17 in the third-place bout. 

Priyanna, on the other hand, joined forces with her college mate Laynce Donaldson in the women’s doubles category. The Guyanese and Donaldson were also given a first-round bye. 

They then preceded to down Krisha Mejica and Cecilla Wolski (Kings) 18-21, 23-21, 21-18 in the quarters but failed to get past Johnna Rymes & Takeisha Wang (Concordia) losing 21-7, 21-10 in the semis. 

Nevertheless, the duo accounted for Samantha Hsu and Ivy Ung (Nait): 21-17, 21-18 in the bronze medal match. 

Priyanna in the singles, after dripping her semi-final match, defeated Cecillia Wolski (Kings): 21-17, 21-9 to cop bronze. 

Meanwhile, on the local side, the Gumdac open doubles tournament will be held at the National Gymnasium on the weekend of February 14-17, 2020.
