This weekend national cycling coach, Hassan Mohamed has organized two cycling meets sponsored by R&R International for the 28th year.
On Saturday, the country’s best wheelsmen will take to the inner circuit of the National Park for the 28th edition of the 11-race programme. Romello Crawford, who has been missing from local cycling for majority of the season, is the defending champion after stopping the clock at one hour, 43 minutes and 14 seconds (01:43:14) in the Schoolboys and Invitational 35-lap feature race.
Sherwin Sampson will also defend his 10-lap juveniles’ title which was won in a time of 00:28:47 as well as Jaikaran Sukhai in the veterans under 50, Kennard Lovell in the over 50 and Jaheim Henry in the three laps 12-14 years BMX.
On Sunday, the riders will then converge at Schoonard, West Demerara, for a 40-mile race that will see them heading to Bushy Park, Parika and returning to the starting point for the finish. Paul DeNobrega is the defending champion after completing the course in 01:37:15. Sampson will also defend the juvenile title in this event.
At last year’s event, Hector Edwards Jr., won the mountain bike division and Alex Mendes the veterans category.
Mohamed explained that Jacob Rambarran of R&R will be on hand for the distribution of prizes and to witness the action.
The veteran administrator extended gratitude to the company for their near three-decade involvement with cycling and promised keen competition from the country’s best.
“Mr. Rambarran is an avid follower of the sport and it is businessmen like him that keeps the sport alive. This is one of the races that cyclists look forward to every year and we are proud to be associated with R&R,” Mohamed stated.
