A solid opening stand by Romeo Deonarain and Ryan Latif proved to be the cornerstone of Georgetown’s 42-run opening-round win over West Demerara in the under-15 Inter-Association tournament at Everest on Monday.
The day began with Georgetown winning the toss and electing to bat. The City side went on to post 177 for nine from their allotted 50 overs with both Deonarain and Latif falling one short of their respective half-centuries.
The pair added 81 runs for the first wicket.
Lower order batsman John Persaud chipped in with 19 as Neamiah Singh (3-25) and Jeremiah Singh (3-31) shared six wickets for the West Dem side which laboured to 135 – 5 for their allotted 50 overs in response.
Opener Sachin Balgobin top-scored with 34 while Nityanand Natura (32) and Rezekie Renee (18) chipped in. Riyad Latif grabbed 1 for 18 while the other two wickets went via the run-out route.
