Shabika Gajnabi followed up her 152 in the opening round with an unbeaten 90 to lead Rose Hall Town Metro to a 96-run win over New Amsterdam/Canje and win the Berbice Cricket Board/ Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club/ Nand Persaud Company Limited female 50-over competition Sunday.
Early morning showers forced the match to be reduced to a 20-over affair and RHT Metro, batting first, scored 149 for six and then limited the visitors to 53 all out.
The out-of-favour West Indies all-rounder, Gajnabi stroked six boundaries after coming to the crease in the first over with her side losing Marian Samaroo for duck at Area H. She was supported by Erva Giddings (17), Dian Prahalad (12) and Sherika Campbelle (10) while Tremayne Smartt bagged two for 14 for New Amsterdam/Canje.
The visitor’s chase was rocked by left-arm pacer, Giddings, who took three wickets for just four runs and complemented by Campbelle (2-10). Smartt was the only resistance, scoring 22 not out.
The previous day, RHT Metro hammered West Berbice by 324 runs. Gajnabi won the toss and elected to bat with her side chalking up 424 runs in their quota before containing West Berbice to 100 in 33 overs.
Gajnabi piloted the assault with 24 fours and two sixes as she forged a 220-run second wicket stand with Samaroo, who made 45. Kassie Munroe chipped in with 40 not out but it was 120 extras that allowed RHT Metro to pass the 400-run mark.
D. Frank (3-65) and T. Issaacs (2-62) were the principal wicket takers for West Berbice.
In reply, Plaffina Millington (3-19) and Prahalad (3-30) were supported by Giddings and Campbelle with two wickets each. Katanna Mentore top scored with 30 not out.
