Ceon Cantzlaar, the barber who was charged with exposing his genitals to a customer and touching her without her consent, was yesterday sentenced to a total of four years in jail.
Cantzlaar, 42, of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown was sentenced in his absence by Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty, who found him guilty of the two charges laid against him.
Cantzlaar was charged last October with exposing his genitals to the woman on September 24th, 2019 at the corner of Aubrey Barker Road and Festival City Entrance. He was also charged with touching the woman’s thigh and attempting to kiss her.
It was the police’s case that on the day in question, the woman, who had used Cantzlaar’s services in the past, made an appointment via WhatsApp with him. Later, while having her hair cut, Cantzlaar allegedly begun playing vulgar music and took out his genitals to show the woman while touching her thigh and attempting to kiss her. The woman later left the barber shop and received several voice notes from the defendant expressing how sorry he was. The matter was reported and Cantzlaar was then arrested and charged.
However, he had pleaded not guilty and was granted bail, following which he never showed up for his trial, which was conducted in his absence.
At the conclusion of the trial yesterday, Magistrate McGusty found him guilty of the two offences and sentenced him to two years in jail for each charge committed, with the sentences running consecutively. As a result, he will be serving four years behind bars.
An arrest warrant was issued for Cantzlaar.
