Guyanese Eon Hooper’s all-round brilliance spurred Barrackpore United to a three-wicket win over Yorkshire last weekend in the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board two-day tournament at Cunjal cricket ground.
The discarded national off-spinner took five four 47 to bundle Yorkshire for 153 in their first innings. Hooper was supported by Ramesh Briglal (2-25) and Adrian Cooper (2-26). For Yorkshire, Keyron Ramlal led the charge with an unbeaten 60, decorated with five fours and a six while D. Ramdharri chipped in with 35. Together, the pair added 87 for the ninth wicket.
Barrackpore United secured a marginal five-run lead after posting 158 in their first innings. Dean Charles was instrumental, scoring 42 while Jerve Cummings and Hooper supported with 25 and 18 respectively.
Barrackpore built on the small lead by dismantling Yorkshire in their second innings for 145, despite a 65-run opening stand as Briglal took 5-25 and Darron Beekah picked up 2-25 along with Hooper, who returned 1-47.
Barrackpore, despite a few hiccups reached 143-7 with Trevon James scoring 47, laced with three boundaries. He added 42 for the sixth wicket with Hooper who made 35 not out with three boundaries. C. Harris, who rocked the top order ended with 3-34 while Ramlal also picked up three wickets.
