Akshaya Persaud’s half century and Anthony Adam’s three-wicket haul helped Southside to a 219-run win over Ruby in the third round of the East Bank Essequibo Cricket Association/Dwayne Stephens 40-over tournament.
At the Parika Salem ground Sunday, Southside posted 268 all out and then restricted Ruby to 50 all out in 14 overs.
Persaud struck eight sixes and one four before he was run out for 87.
Ameer Singh (26), Cecil Adams (23) and Renaldo Renee (23) were the other principal scorers.
A.Habib took four for 53, J. Rajkumar, 2-44, W. Marks, 2-44 and R. Bhagwandin, 2-72.
Ruby’s chase was halted by a barrage of spinners from Southside, led by their captain, Anthony Adams who picked up four wickets for five runs with his left arm spin. Cecil Adams chipped in with three for four while Persaud had one for 21.
In the other contests, Zeelugt defeated Cold Fusion by 63 runs and Parika Salem beat Vergenoegen by 69 runs.
Earlier, rain washed out the opening round while in the second round Anthony Adams picked up seven for 12 runs to spin his side to a 128-run win over Zeelugt.
Southside scored 183 all out in 33.3 overs before containing Zeelugt to 55 all out in 17.2 overs.
Jeremiah Scott’s 63 and Anthony Adams’ unbeaten 41 were Southside’s top scorers.
Awad Dass, 4-26 and Vickash Daniram, 3-38, were the main wicket takers.
In Zeelugt’s chase, Adams spun webs around hosts, picking up 7-12 as the crashed to 55 all out in 17.2 overs.
Terry Newton also picked up two wickets without leaking a run while Vickram Kissoon was the only batsman to reach double figures with 15.
