Two young children who were left home alone were rescued from a Sophia house that was almost reduced to ashes on Thursday night after a fire of unknown origin.
The fire reportedly started at minutes after 9 pm while two brothers, ages three and six, were left at their ‘D’ Field, Sophia home, sleeping.
Stabroek News was told that the children were left with their uncle, who is the owner of the house, but he left to go to a shop after they fell asleep.
After the fire started, a neighbour rescued the children.
The wooden house was reported to have been razed by the time the fire service arrived.
When this newspaper went to the scene, only the burnt remains were there. Burnt clothes and other material could be seen scattered around what was once the floor of the house.
