Louis DaSilva pulled off a stunning victory over one of the pre-tournament favourites Ashley Khalil on the second day of the 2020 Bounty Farm Ltd., Handicap squash tournament last evening at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street to put his name in the running for championship honours.
DaSilva, who began the match with the more favoured handicap, 10, to Khalil’s -7, showed great resolve to down the CAS bronze medallist 2-0. He took command of the first set and won it 15-3.
He then backed up his first set success by countering Khalil’s power-game and cheeky drop shots to take the second set and the match 15-13. It was a night of upsets for the ‘big guns’ as Kirsten Gomes (0) went down to Brian Edwards (9) 15-13, 15-9, a result which left the tournament wide open.
Meanwhile, the other Open category winner of the evening, as of press time, was Lloyd Fung-A-Fat, who accounted for Robin Lowe 15-7, 15-11 in an exciting duel.
The tournament continues this evening at the same venue.
