A 38-year-old woman was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday after being shot in the buttocks by an acquaintance at Puruni Landing, in Region Seven.
According to the Regional Commander Linden Lord, Ayesha George, a vendor of Lot 115 Lindy Avenue, Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara, was shot around 1.30 pm by a boat captain from Linden. When contacted by Stabroek News, Lord said that George was in a stable condition
A statement issued by the Guyana Police Force said that George and the suspect are known to each other as both are working in the Puruni Landing area.
George reportedly told the police that she was heading to a nearby shop when she heard a loud explosion and felt a burning sensation to her left side buttocks.
After realising she was shot, she was rushed to the Bartica Public Hospital and later transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she is expected to undergo surgery.
Meanwhile, Lord revealed, one of the ranks who was dispatched to the scene was involved in an accident and was rushed to the Bartica Hospital. As a result, there was a delay in reaching the scene. However, other ranks are currently trying to locate the suspect.
