Explosive West Indies top order batsman, Lendl Simmons, is the latest addition to Friday’s Golden Republic T20 bash at the Providence National Stadium.
Simmons, 35, is the second regional player to come on board, following his Trinidad and Tobago countryman, Rayad Emrit.
But the two Trinidadians are poised to play for separate teams as Simmons is likely to turn out for Hetmyer Hurricanes while Emrit was drafted by Rutherford Renegades.
Simmons, brings a wealth of experience having played 247 T20 matches and scored over 6500 runs. He will also know the conditions at the host venue, having played extensively there as a member of the Caribbean Premier League Franchise, Guyana Amazon Warriors. Apart from Warriors, Simmons also played in the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians and was part of the International Cricket Council World T20 winning, West Indies side.
The event is a collaboration between the Ministry of Social Cohesion and the Guyana Cricket Board and is touted to feature the best players available in Guyana including national players and cricketers from the Cricket Guy Inc., Academy.
Some of the names likely to play are Amazon Warriors’ Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Anthony Bramble and Veerasammy Permaul along with Trevon `Bugsy’ Griffith, Christopher Barnwell, Tevin Imlach, Raymon Reifer, Kevin Sinclair, Akshaya Persaud, Robin Bacchus, Leon Johnson, Steven Jacobs, Jonathan Foo, Keon Joseph, Nial Smith, Kemol Savory, Gudakesh Motie, Anthony Adams, Ricardo Adams and others.
Prior to the feature event which is billed for 18.00 hours, fans will witness a high-profile softball showdown between Ariel Speedboat and Regal All-Stars from 14.00 hours. Tickets are set at $2000 with car passes at $1000 available at the Guyana Cricket Board office, Regent Road Bourda.
