The police officer who was involved in an accident while on his way to investigate a shooting in Region Seven is currently recovering after undergoing surgery to reduce the swelling in his brain.
Constable 23688 Harris, who was stationed at the Bartica Police Station in Region Seven, underwent emergency surgery on Monday morning.
He had been flung off an ATV while on his way to investigate a shooting, which occurred on Saturday afternoon.
Regional Commander of Region Seven Linden Lord revealed that Harris and other ranks were dispatched to investigate a shooting in Puruni. They were travelling along the Takutu trail when the rider swerved to avoid a pothole. As a result, Harris was flung off the ATV and landed on the road.
He was subsequently picked up by his co-workers, who transported him back to the Bartica Public Hospital. He was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital and underwent emergency surgery to reduce the swelling in his brain.
Lord told Stabroek News that the surgery was successful and although ranks were not allowed to see Harris during a visit late yesterday afternoon, they were told that he was in a stable condition. He added they were told that Harris would need to continue resting for a while so that his brain could heal.
In addition, he stated, ranks would be sent to check on Harris every day until they could get an accurate update on his condition.
