Sparta Boss, Gold is Money, Future Stars, Rio All-Stars and Berbice All-Stars secured their berths to the quarter-final section of the inaugural President’s Cup Streetball knockout championships which started Tuesday.
Played at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, Sparta Boss crushed Up-Top-Bosses by a 4-0 scoreline.
Similarly, Gold is Money defeated Smythe Street 2-0 and Rio All-Stars downed Broad Street 3-1.
In other results, Berbice All-Stars brushed aside Melanie 3-1 and Future Stars made light work of Quiet Storm by a 2-0 score.
Linden’s Swag Entertainment edged Alexander Village 2-1 while Showstoppers bested Albouystown 5-4 on sudden death penalty kicks after regulation time ended 1-1.
Also, North East La Penitence downed Beterverwagting (BV) 1-0 on penalty kicks following a 0-0 score at the end of normal time.
The tournament continues today at the same venue with quarterfinal round of matches.
In the opening match, Swag Entertainment battles Future Stars at 20:00hrs, while Gold is Money will oppose Berbice All-Stars at 20:30hrs in the second matchup. In the third fixture, Showstoppers will match skills with Rio All-Stars at 21:00hrs, with Sparta Boss facing off with North East La Penitence in the fourth fixture at 21:30hrs.
The other playing dates are February 25th [Semi-final] and 29th [Final]. Winner of the event will collect $500,000, with the runner-up team receiving $300,000. The third and fourth placed sides will receive $150,000 and $50,000 respectively.
