President of the Lusignan Golf Club, Aleem Hussain, said last evening that he had stepped down from his role and denied that he was asked by the executives to relinquish his position.
According to information reaching this publication, the members asked Hussain to relinquish the post while an investigation into financial irregularities was being conducted. However, when contacted, Hussain denied the claim.
The man at the helm said that the move is in keeping with him taking up a new role with golf in Guyana but opted not to divulge further.
“Press releases will be sent out later in the week on that,” he said.
He did, however, offer a statement which read, “Having dedicated two years of personal time, resources and money towards developing the club and boosting public awareness of the sport (the results of which are visible to all), I am stepping down as president of the LGC to focus on projects and programmes that are designed to have a wider impact on the sport.”
Elections due —subhead
Hussain said that his relinquishment of the top post was in keeping with the body looking to have elections within the next month.
Hussain was elected president back in 2018 but the LGC has not held an election since although the constitution mandates a one year term for elected officials.
The incumbent claimed that the financial records of the previous administration was not in order, resulting in the stalling of elections, despite his administration being elected without the financial records.
Hussain also told this publication in a previous interview that his administration’s finances is “100 percent ready.”
