A 35-year-old Essequibo resident lost his life on Sunday night after he allegedly collided with a car while riding his motorcycle along the Adventure Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
Suresh Arjun of Lot 3 Adventure, Essequibo Coast sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body in the accident which occurred around 8.50 pm.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Suddie Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan yesterday confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old resident of Fair-field, Essequibo was arrested and is assisting the police with the investigation.
Ramlakhan said the driver who failed a breathalyzer test was “exceedingly” above the legal limit.
At the time of the accident, Arjun was said to be speeding. His motorcycle, CJ 4350 had no lights.
The police in a press statement said that enquiries disclosed that motorcar, PMM 2260 was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of the road.
The driver alleged that while he was negotiating a left bend, Arjun, who was proceeding in the opposite
direction collided with his vehicle.
As a result of the impact, Arjun fell onto the road surface.
Arjun’s body is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
