A man was remanded to prison on Friday after being charged with assaulting a policeman.
Antonio Maraj, a father of two who resides at Leopold Street, George-town, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he was brought before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in Georgetown.
It was alleged that on February 8th, 2020, 23-year-old Maraj assaulted Police Sergeant John Mohammed to prevent the lawful apprehension of a man.
Police prosecutor Sanj Singh informed the court that the accused is known to have had three previous charges.
Maraj failed to provide a lot number for his current Leopold residence, telling the court that it has only been about a year since he has been living there. As a result, Maraj was refused bail and remanded to prison until March 20th, 2020.
