By Monday evening, Elishaba Johnson was perhaps the sole talking point of the annual Forbes Burnham Memorial Table Tennis tournament after he claimed both the Under-21 and “B” Class titles.
He defeated 13-year old Johathan Van Lange 4-1 and 4-3 respectively to secure those titles.
Johnson, though, was gunning for a third triumph at the tournament having reached the final of the men’s Open singles category where he faced former junior national player Orin `Vege’ Hickerson Monday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
Hickerson, though, ended Johnson’s aspirations of completing the triple by winning the final 6-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8.
The eventual champ had created the biggest upset of the event when he accounted for pre-tournament favourite Nigel Bryan 4-1 in the semis while Johnson crafted his way past Van Lange for the third time in the tournament 4-2.
