As part of its decision to refrain from the use of private residences as polling places, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) yesterday erected several tents on public playfields and tarmacs, such as the Mon Repos Market Tarmac.

It is not clear how many of the 2,339 polling stations will be housed in tents but Sunday Stabroek has been able to confirm that at least 10 tents are being erected at areas such as Perseverance, Good Hope, Eastville Annandale  and Bareroot.

Speaking with Sunday Stabroek last evening, GECOM Public Relations Officer Yolanda Ward indicated that Presiding Officers have been able to check that all materials necessary for polling are available in sufficient quantities and they are likely to make final preparations at their individual polling stations today.
