A United States citizen was one of two men killed in separate shooting incidents between Friday night and yesterday morning.
The victims were identified as Robert Saunders, 49, and Anton Drayton, 41.
Saunders, who lived in New Jersey, was shot dead around 12.05 a.m. yesterday in Petit Valley.
He was staying with a friend from the area.
Police were told that residents of Sandy Road, off Cameron Road, Petit valley, heard gunshots and upon investigating they found Saunders bleeding from multiple gunshot injuries.
He was taken to the St James Medical Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Saunders was a fire sprinkler technician in the United States, police were told.
Investigators have no motive for his killing.
About an hour earlier, in an unrelated incident, Drayton’s bullet-riddled body was found lying in a drain near his home in Arima.
Residents of Church Street North, Samaroo Village, heard gunshots and later found his body.
He died on the scene.
Murder toll climbs
Two more killings in Laventille and Maloney yesterday afternoon pushed the murder toll to 94 for the year so far.
The toll for the same period last year was 85.
Around 2 p.m., Akile Mawlins, of Santa Cruz, was said to be at a job site at Pump Trace, Laventille, when he was shot.
Residents found the 35-year-old bleeding from gunshot injuries.
An alarm was raised and he was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he died.
And around 3.30 p.m., Semp Trace, Maloney Gardens, residents heard several loud explosions and found a man on the pavement, in a pool of blood.
The police were notified and a team of officers from the Maloney Police Station responded.
However, the victim eventually died of his wounds.
Body found
The body of a man was found yesterday morning in a drain off the Eastern Main Road in Tacarigua.
Up to last night, the man had not been identified.
Police said at around 8 a.m. they received information that the body was lying in shallow water, in a drain near Tacarigua Presbyterian Church.
Officers of the Northern Division and the Homicide Bureau responded.
Police said injuries which appeared to be marks of violence were observed, but an autopsy has been ordered to confirm the cause of death.
