Dear Editor,
I want Mr. Granger to know that I hold no grudge against him for considering me a person not fit and proper to Chair the Elections Commission. It was never a position I ever wanted. When Hoyte invited me to agree to my name being submitted, I responded that I would never say no to him and was confident the PPP would not select me. When Jagdeo invited me for the same purpose, I said the same thing to him as I said to Hoyte but made the additional statement that he was asking me in effect to give up a lucrative accounting practice and a building law practice.
Of course being described as not fit and proper would be defamatory of the persons he rejected, but I am sure none of them took it personally, especially coming from Granger. If James Patterson was the type of appointee Granger was looking for, then his categorisation of the eighteen was entirely understandable, and probably welcomed by them.
Yours faithfully,
Christopher Ram
