A two-storey building in the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority’s (NDIA) compound at Tarlogie Farm, Corentyne, was completely destroyed by a fire yesterday afternoon.
According to information gathered, the 1 pm blaze also damaged a container of tools located in the building.
A fire service source last evening indicated that the fire was a “malicious one”, as he noted that someone was seen escaping from the area moments after the fire started. Initially, the fire service was told that the building was being rented by BK International Inc as a living quarters. However, BK Head Brian Tiwarie last evening told Stabroek News, that the company rented the building some twelve years ago while they were working on a road project in Berbice.
He said, to his knowledge the company is presently only renting two buildings in the GuySuCo compound located at Crabwood Creek. In terms of the container of tools, he noted, that he would have to make some checks to further clarify whether the company had left any tools in the building.
Meanwhile, as of last evening no arrest had been made in connection with the fire.
