One of the men who allegedly shot and robbed a North Road resident at the Blue Martini bar last month was charged yesterday with armed robbery and remanded to prison.

Nicholas Chow, 31, of 254 East La Penitence, was brought to the George-town Magistrates’ Courts where he stood before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who read the charge to him.

It is alleged that on February 28, at Lamaha Street, Georgetown, while in the company of another and armed with a gun, Chow robbed Neil Dutchin of $500,000 cash, a cellphone, valued $20,000, and a knife, valued $500.

The taxi-driver pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Police Prosecutor objected to bail. The objection was on the grounds that Dutchin was still hospitalised and that Chow was previously charged with a similar offence and had served time behind bars.

The prosecutor told the court that on the night in question, the men were drinking at the bar when a misunderstanding between them occurred. The court heard that Chow left the bar and later returned with two men, including one armed with a hand gun. The prosecutor then said that Dutchin was shot in the right leg and in his abdomen before the men proceeded to relieve him of the articles mentioned in the charge. They then escaped.

However, there was CCTV footage of the men, which was handed over to police investigating the matter.

The prosecutor also said that Dutchin was hospitalised after the robbery and was discharged. He was then bedridden but was returned to the hospital, where he remains.

After listening to the prosecutor’s facts, the Magistrate remanded Chow to prison until March 25th, when he will make his next court appearance.
